Description

SWE SCV is partnering with Northrop Grumman and SWE LCC to help you understand the Importance of Mentorship. The event will be on Thursday, May 18 at 5.30PM. Northrop Grumman will have a museum tour as the plant was founded in 1856 and is the largest heavy machine shop west of the Mississippi River.

Everybody needs a mentor! This talk will focus on understanding the importance of mentoring and the difference with sponsorship. We will discuss what are the best practices to establish a successful mentoring relationship (mentor/mentee) and we will have a couple of exercises to practice the skills.

Our wonderful speaker will be Claudia Galvan, a SWE Professional LCC coach.

Claudia Galván is a senior technical leader, she has led product development at Oracle, Adobe and Microsoft reaching billions of people around the world. In the last few years, she has focused on helping startups in Silicon Valley launch products internationally. Claudia is a community leader empowering women and Latinos in STEM. She is a SWE Officer and Leadership Coach. Claudia is a former Sr. Director at the Anita Borg Institute, Board Member at Notre Dame High School and mentor at the TechWomen program. She has been recipient of many awards including Silicon Valley Women of Influence, Distinguished Leader award, and Global Product Development award.

Please note: By Tuesday, May 9, we will need the list of all attendees, their company affiliation, and citizenship. Non-US citizens (green card/work visa holders) are allowed, as long as we get their names by May 9, since we will have to submit this list to our security for approval.

Guests can park along Hendy Avenue or the visitor parking lot at the corner of Hendy Ave and Sunnyvale Ave. We will have signs pointing to the security lobby, where guests will have to register.

Please note that any camera-enabled devices are not allowed, so they will need to be left in their vehicles or use the phone locker in the lobby.

Food and drinks will be provided.
